OUR NEEDS
The Institute of Saint Joseph relies upon the offerings of members, the collection taken on Sundays at the Traditional Latin Mass, the money raised by the hermits for their self-support, and the donations of other benefactors to be financially supported. We receive no money from the Diocese of La Crosse or from any parish. We are completely self-supported.
The Institute of Saint Joseph is a 501 (3) non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible.
Cor Jesu Oratory (Sacred Heart Church) is over one hundred years old and is a kind of historical landmark in the area. Its preservation and upkeep are important not only for the Institute of Saint Joseph but also for the Catholic Church in Chippewa County and the Diocese of La Crosse because the parish of Sacred Heart, Edson, is the mother parish for the area.
The current projects that we have are listed according to their importance:
● Tuck pointing the outside of the Oratory (the church building).
● The repair of the steeple.
● A new fence in the back yard of the former school needs to be stained. The residence behind the former school is a guest house for priest retreatants and the fence gives separation from the house for both retreatants and hermits.
● New windows for the former school. We have no ability to open windows in the building at all and we need windows that conserve energy.
● Air conditioning for the Oratory (church building). At present we have no ability to open the windows in the church and during the summer must rely upon opening and keeping open the entrance door of the church for air circulation. In the summer the sanctuary becomes extremely hot and humid. Being able to reduce the humidity is not so much for comfort as it is for preserving the wood altars and reredos and health reasons for those in the sanctuary.
● Completion of renovations of the second floor of the hermitage (the former rectory).
